Dynamic load management – success factor for networked charging solutions
If many electric cars are to be charged at the same time, the available energy must be distributed intelligently. The key to the successful expansion of the charging infrastructure and the intelligent networking of the various products, whether wallbox or charging station, therefore lies in charging management. We answer frequently asked questions and show you the advantages of dynamic load management using our “EVlink Charging Expert” product
Load management ensures that the electricity available at the house connection is distributed intelligently. Operators of commercial properties want to ensure that sufficient energy is available for other areas of the building. Underground parking garage operators are just as concerned about a secure power supply for all charging solutions as residents of apartment buildings. Setting up zones with fast and slower charging speeds can be interesting for company parking lots. In short: If you want to avoid energy peaks and avoid overloading the grid, you need to use load management.
Dynamics make the difference!
My property is too old to connect charging infrastructure. The power supply in my company is not sufficient to operate charging stations in addition to machines. Or: If we install wallboxes in the underground garage of our apartment building and all tenants want to charge at the same time, it quickly becomes too expensive for everyone due to the resulting energy peaks or there is too little electricity available. These or similar statements no longer count when it comes to deciding for or against electromobility. Our dynamic load management system creates an electromobility solution that neither overloads the power grid nor causes energy peaks. The intelligence of our load management is the key here.
Why do I need dynamic load management and what role does the simultaneity factor play?
Without regulating the energy via load management, a simultaneity factor of 1 must be assumed for the grid dimensioning. This means that it must be assumed that all charging stations in simultaneous operation draw their full power at the same time. By using load management, a larger number of charging solutions can be operated according to the available energy at the house connection than without load management, as these can be regulated by the load management if required. This prevents the connection from being overloaded.
What is dynamic load management and how does dynamic load management work?
With dynamic load management, the current power at the grid connection is measured and the charging power at the e-charging station is intelligently adjusted accordingly. This enables a future-proof charging solution for a limited grid connection capacity. But our dynamic load management “EVlink Charging Expert” can do even more: it is configured via a web server and can be monitored in real time via an intuitive dashboard in a web application.
Advantages for operators of multiple charging points:
Load management avoids energy peaks
By distributing energy intelligently, charging infrastructure operators can avoid energy peaks. The meters measure the current power. The controller, a kind of miniature “industrial computer”, processes the data and regulates the charging infrastructure accordingly. This can be illustrated using the example of a manufacturing company: Here, only a certain amount of energy is available at the house connection. If this quantity is exceeded, the grid operator charges for expensive peak loads. Dynamic load management regulates this load flexibly and provides more or less energy for the charging infrastructure. The maximum current output in the overall system can be set individually. This keeps the planning of energy costs reliable.
Load management allows charging stations to be prioritized
With the help of EVlink Charging Expert load management, it is possible to prioritize charging points. You can store VIP functions via the backend. For example, you enable short-term parkers to obtain higher charging capacities and vehicles that can be charged overnight in commercial buildings with electricity from the electricity storage system or cheap night-time electricity.
Load management in combination with the conductor rail: flexibly expanding the infrastructure for electromobility
In combination with our Canalis rail distributor system dynamic load management allows the system to be expanded flexibly. The special thing about it is that, thanks to the rail distributor, the number of charging points and thus the infrastructure can grow with it.
